“Where faith meets community,” could easily be Gangseo Church’s motto. Let’s uncover its story.

But Gangseo-gu has more to its story than just Gangseo Church. On June 26, volunteers from the Church of God in Gangseo-gu worked hard. They joined forces with the Church in Yangcheon-gu. Their mission was to maintain drainage systems. They focused on Deungchon 3-dong and Yeomchang-dong. The goal was to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Yeomchang-dong Community Service Center supported them. They provided gloves and garbage bags. Over 160 volunteers worked on the drainage systems. Lee Jong-suk from the Gangseo District Council thanked the church members. She appreciated their hard work.

Another prominent church in Seoul is the Yoido Full Gospel Church. It’s the largest Pentecostal church in South Korea. David Yonggi Cho and Choi Ja-shil founded it in 1958. Young Hoon Lee currently leads it. In 1973, the church relocated to its current building. Sampoong Construction Industries built it. This is the same company that constructed the Sampoong Department Store.

Yoido Full Gospel Church began with a small service. Only a few people attended. These included Choi Ja-shil’s daughters and an elderly woman. The pastors knocked on doors. They helped the poor and prayed for the sick. The church quickly grew.

Pastor Cho preached about the Three-Fold Blessing. He said God wants Christians to have spiritual health and financial prosperity. Many people joined the church because of this message. By 1961, the church had a thousand members.
