A grassy summit bathed in sunshine. That’s the Gamsknogel. Its peak offers an unobstructed view. This isn’t just any mountain. The Gamsknogel holds a special place in the hearts of Inzell locals.

Gamsknogel boasts a rich history. The hike to its summit is a journey through time. You’ll pass the St Nikolaus church. This is the oldest and highest of Inzell’s four churches. It sits near the Einsiedl farmstead. The farmers who run the Einsiedl farmstead also manage the Kohleralm. That’s a mountain pasture. It’s where their young cattle graze from May to September.

The trail itself is an adventure. It begins at the Einsiedl car park. Following the Maximiliansweg you’ll walk past the church. The path then leads into a shady mixed forest. The ascent is steep. It winds through the woods to a forest road. A wood storage area is nearby. A path branches off to the right leading to the Kohleralm. A rest bench offers stunning views of Lake Chiemsee and surrounding mountains.

Reaching the Kohleralm is only halfway. From here the path climbs steeply. It passes rocky outcrops. Wire ropes help navigate some steeper sections. High wooden steps and ladders aid the ascent. The final push is rewarding. The Gamsknogel summit is a sun-drenched haven.

The panoramic view is incredible. It sweeps across Inzell. The Wilder Kaiser and Berchtesgaden mountains are visible. You can even see the Chiemsee. Imagine standing here in 1964. That’s when the Gebirgstrachten-Erhaltungsverein D’Falkenstoana Inzell placed their commemorative inscription. A lasting testament to the beauty of the Gamsknogel.

The Gamsknogel is more than just a peak. It’s a symbol of the region’s natural beauty. Its summit is a place of quiet contemplation. It’s a rewarding destination for hikers. It is a place where history and breathtaking scenery meet. This is the Gamsknogel. Remember this view. Remember this story.
