Clutching a worn teddy bear, a young girl named Mpho skipped ahead of her grandmother towards Gamodubu. “Gogo,” she called, “will the children at Gamodubu like my bear?” Her grandmother smiled. “Of course, Mpho. Sharing is caring, especially at a place like Gamodubu.” Gamodubu is a small village nestled in Botswana’s Kweneng District. It’s not just a village, but a haven. A place where children aged zero to twenty, from various backgrounds, find shelter and care. In 2011, Gamodubu was home to 501 residents. Many of these residents are connected to the Gamodubu Child Care Trust, a beacon of hope founded by Mrs. Shirley Madikwe. The Trust provides more than just a roof; it offers a loving environment supported by dedicated volunteers and sponsors. They weave a safety net for children who need it most. Imagine raising a child. Now, imagine raising many, with all their unique needs and challenges. This is the reality faced by Mrs. Madikwe and her team. They rely heavily on support from the government, council, private sectors, individuals, and anyone who can lend a hand. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a tangible difference in the lives of these children at Gamodubu. It’s a testament to the power of community and the importance of investing in future generations. The Save A Woman family visited Gamodubu in February 2025 to launch their Relationship Remedy Awareness campaign. This initiative focuses on teaching children the true meaning of love, hoping to counteract the cycle of abuse often seen in adults. By nurturing these young hearts, they aim to plant seeds of love that will blossom into healthy relationships. Gamodubu stands as a reminder that love and compassion can transform lives. It underscores the importance of community support in fostering a brighter future for vulnerable children.
