Galerie Brockstedt first opened its doors in 1957 in Hannover. It later moved to Hamburg, nurturing a legacy of modernist and contemporary art. In 1992, Boris Brockstedt, son of the founder Hans Brockstedt, extended this legacy to Berlin. He established a branch at Mommsenstrasse 59, adding a new chapter to the gallery’s story. Galerie Brockstedt isn’t just a space; it’s a continuation of a rich tradition. Boris Brockstedt carries the torch, curating an independent program of contemporary art. He also deals in modernist artworks from the 1920s and 1930s, echoing his father’s pioneering spirit. Hans Brockstedt was among the first gallerists in post-war Germany to champion modernist masters. Artists like Christian Schad, Kurt Schwitters, and Franz Radziwill found a platform in his gallery. He also showcased the works of Cologne Progressives, Constructivists, and unique figures like Richard Oelze and Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
