Nestled in the heart of DCU’s St. Patrick’s Campus is the G Block – Cregan Library. It’s more than just bookshelves and study spaces. It’s a vibrant hub of learning, a testament to the pursuit of knowledge, and a key resource for students immersed in Education and Humanities. The G Block – Cregan Library isn’t just a building. It’s a bridge connecting the past and the future. The G Block – Cregan Library rose from the ashes of its predecessor, a space bursting at the seams, inadequate for the growing needs of the student body. The old library was simply too small. It lacked space for special collections and sufficient shelving. The vision for the G Block – Cregan Library was ambitious. A standalone building, a space that fostered both individual and collaborative learning, a home for special collections and archives, and a welcoming space for the community. The G Block – Cregan Library achieved all of this and more. The four-story structure, completed in 2015, is a modern marvel. It boasts seminar rooms, integrated study spaces, and even a coffee shop on the ground floor, open to the public. The G Block – Cregan Library also brought the college’s Resource Center under its roof, streamlining access for education students preparing for school placements. This integration ensured extended opening hours and greater accessibility for everyone. One of the biggest undertakings during the transition was the conversion of 150,000 items to RFID, a testament to the library’s commitment to embracing technology. The G Block – Cregan Library isn’t just a repository of information. It’s a living, breathing entity, connecting students, staff, and the local community. Its prominent position in Drumcondra Village serves as a visual link between the campus and the wider world.
