Think back to 1810. That’s when the original Fulbourn United Reform Church was built. It wasn’t this building. This one came later. The present Fulbourn United Reform Church building dates back to 1841. It replaced the original one.

Fulbourn United Reform Church is located about five miles from Cambridge city center. It stands in the village of Fulbourn. The church underwent extensive refurbishment in 1989 and 1990. Today it is a welcoming warm and adaptable place.

The United Reformed Church has a rich history. It unites English-speaking Congregationalists English Presbyterians and Churches of Christ. These groups began uniting in 1972. Their traditions go back to the 16th century.

Congregationalists believe in community. They nurture each other in faith. They make decisions without external interference. This polity traces back to the New Testament. It emphasizes the priesthood of all believers.

Fulbourn United Reform Church offers several facilities. Wheelchair users have easy access. There are also disabled toilet facilities. A loop hearing system is installed.

Baptisms weddings and funerals can be arranged. Contact the Minister or Church Secretary to enquire. The church hall is available for hire. Domino Pre-School uses the hall every weekday during school term.

Revd Nigel Uden has been the minister since December 2010. He trained in Manchester and was ordained in 1984. He previously served churches in Cheshire South Africa and Lancashire. From 2001 to 2010 he was Moderator of the United Reformed Church’s Southern Synod.

Nigel leads services twice a month in Fulbourn. Usually it is on the second Sunday morning. He almost always leads the evening service on the fourth Sunday. He shares leadership with four elders. Important decisions are made by the Members’ meeting. It meets at least four times a year. This usually happens after the morning service.

Nigel is also the minister at Downing Place URC in Cambridge city center. He divides his time between the two churches.

The United Reformed Church takes safeguarding seriously. They have a policy in accordance with URC guidance. This policy is available upon request. The church’s mission is to know Christ and to make Christ known.
