Bakers and Bamberg share something special. That thing is the Fuchsparkstadion. We’re standing before a place steeped in local sports history. This is more than just a stadium; it’s a Bamberg landmark.

Originally known as the Hauptkampfbahn im Volkspark or Volksparkstadion, this stadium opened in 1926. It was built for the 16th Bavarian State Gymnastics Festival. Back then, it could hold around 15,000 spectators.

In the late 1930s, a covered grandstand was added. This increased the capacity to a whopping 27,000. Imagine the roar of the crowd during those early games. The stadium witnessed record attendances in 1946 and 1964. The atmosphere must have been electric.

The Fuchsparkstadion has seen its fair share of changes. In 2008, the old main grandstand was torn down. A new structure was built in its place. It featured about 1,000 covered seats and 200 covered standing places.

Further renovations in 2009 made the Hauptkampfbahn suitable for regional league play. These improvements included separating the blocks and installing floodlights.

Here’s a fun fact. The stadium’s name changed to Fuchs-Park-Stadion in August 2009. This was thanks to a sponsorship deal with a local bakery, Bäckerei Fuchs. The agreement was initially set for ten years.

Today, the Fuchsparkstadion has a nominal capacity of 5,200 for regional league games. This includes around 1,000 covered seats, 200 covered standing places, and over 4,000 uncovered standing places. Other events can accommodate more fans.

FC Eintracht Bamberg calls this stadium home. They bring energy and passion to every match. The Fuchsparkstadion is easily accessible. It is close to the A73 autobahn exit Bamberg-Ost. The city bus line 902, which stops at the stadium, provides public transport.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung highlighted the Fuchsparkstadion’s historical significance in 2014. They wrote that only the Willy-Sachs-Stadion in Schweinfurt and this stadium convey a sense of the importance of sports in the 1920s and 30s. It reflects a time of societal change. The stadium was intended as a leisure park. It served as a recreational area for families, much like the Volkspark in Bamberg.

The Fuchsparkstadion stands as a reminder of Bamberg’s sporting past. It is a testament to the enduring power of community and the love of the game. Take a moment to soak in the atmosphere. Think about the players who have graced this field and the fans who have cheered them on. This is a place where memories are made.
