Ready to step into a place where innovation meets nature? That’s the FRIM Auditorium. It stands within the Forest Research Institute Malaysia. Locals know it as FRIM. It is a green lung near Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
FRIM itself has quite the story. Back in 1925, folks realized this area was in bad shape. It was stripped bare because of farming and mining. Dr. F.W. Foxworthy started a forest nursery in 1926. He wanted to experiment with plants.
Now, fast forward to today. The FRIM Auditorium hosts events. The events promote research results. The research focuses on natural resources and green tech. Think of it as a stage for eco-friendly ideas.
The FRIM Auditorium played host to HKF2024. It’s also called Forest Research Institute Malaysia Commercialisation Day 2024. The theme? “Creating Opportunities for Economic and Environmental Sustainability”. The event brought together researchers and entrepreneurs. They shared ideas for sustainable innovations.
At HKF2024, there were technology exhibitions. Entrepreneurs showcased their products. Leading scientists held interactive sessions. FRIM researchers presented technology pitching sessions. They highlighted technical services. They also offered consulting.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability was present. They launched the FRIM Technologies logo. Several agreements were signed.
One agreement involved Tongkat Ali products. FRIM wants to expand the market for these products. Another agreement created HerbaXpress System. It is an e-commerce gateway. FRIM is also working with Shue Guitars Sdn Bhd. They will research musical instruments made from teak. They will also use non-commercial wood species.
FRIM also recognizes outstanding achievements. They handed out awards to staff. These awards honored commercialization and research excellence.
But the FRIM Auditorium is just a part of FRIM. The Forest Research Institute Malaysia is more than just a venue. It is a leading institution for tropical forestry research. It was declared a National Heritage site in 2012.
FRIM spans 1,528 hectares. It sits next to the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve. The area has trails for jogging and cycling. It is also perfect for picnics. Even better, FRIM has an Orang Asli settlement. Orang Asli are indigenous people.
There’s also the Keruing Trail. This is the oldest public trail. It is about 1.5km long. Look up and you will see ‘Crown Shyness’. This is where tree branches don’t touch. The Salleh Nature Trail honors Tan Sri Dr Salleh Mohd Nor. He loved nature.
The Canopy Walkway is a must-see. It is 30 meters above ground. Only a few people can go at a time. But the views are stunning.
Established in 1995 is the Ethnobotanic Garden. It showcases plants used by ethnic communities. The plants are used as medicine.
