Frienstedt’s story is also tied to an old road. The via regia was a major trade route. It passed by Frienstedt. This road connected Gotha and Erfurt. Erfurt wanted to protect traders using the road. After the German reunification, Frienstedt grew. A new residential area expanded the village. Frienstedt celebrated its 1200th anniversary in 1996.

Three clubs shape the cultural life of Frienstedt today. The Landfrauen is an organization that cares a lot about the senior citizens. The local kindergarten provides learning and security for the youngest residents.
