The Friedhof St. Peter was established in 1844. It was built east of St. Peter’s Church. In 1866 a single-story mortuary was built. It showcased neo-Gothic forms. After World War II, it was altered.

Nuremberg’s population grew quickly. The Friedhof St. Peter needed to expand. It grew in 1860, 1878, and 1905. The expansion led to a new section across Schlossstraße.

In 1972, they began building an urn niche wall. It was expanded again in 1984.

In 1979, a relief was added to the cemetery wall. It is called “A Wall of Becoming and Passing, of Faith and Hope.” It shows themes from creation to eternal life.

Today, Friedhof St. Peter covers about 3.2 hectares. It is one of Nuremberg’s smaller cemeteries.

Did you know the Friedhof St. Peter is celebrating a big anniversary? In 2024, it turned 180 years old. The slogan is “Our cemetery should become more beautiful.” They are seeking help to make it greener. You can even sponsor a tree.

Imagine the rustling leaves. Think about the sunlight filtering through branches. These trees have watched over generations. Now, you can help ensure their future.

As you wander, note the mix of old and new. The Friedhof St. Peter blends history with modern needs. The urn niche wall serves as a reminder of changing traditions.
