How about diving into the history of a place built on community spirit? Here at Freiwillige Feuerwehr Mehrow, we are standing before a symbol of dedication and service. This is more than just a fire station. It’s a cornerstone of Mehrow.
The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Mehrow was founded on July 15, 1934. A photograph from its founding still hangs inside, a testament to its long history. The Feuerwehr has changed locations three times since its early days. Currently, a detailed chronicle of the Feuerwehr’s history is being compiled.
Imagine the volunteers. Picture them ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Today, the Feuerwehr Mehrow has 31 active members. These individuals are ready to serve the residents of Mehrow. They act in their free time and at night. They are unpaid, but dedicated to protecting the community. These firefighters are alerted by pager and siren.
These aren’t just responders. They are trained professionals. Besides deployments, the members participate in training exercises. These exercises happen every 14 days within the Feuerwehr. They also occur at the district level on weekends. This ongoing training ensures they maintain and expand their expertise.
Let’s talk equipment. The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Mehrow operates three vehicles. These include a tank pumper, a pumper, and a dedicated youth fire department pumper. Florian Barnim 03/48-01 is a TSF-W. Florian Barnim 03/42-02 is an LF 10/6.
But the Feuerwehr’s role extends beyond fighting fires. The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Mehrow actively supports the Mehrow community. Traditionally, they organize the annual Easter fire. They also assist with the children’s and harvest festival. They even organize an ice disco in winter, weather permitting. The Feuerwehr assists the community with tasks. These include felling trees, removing branches, and providing water at the church cemetery.
Consider this: In 2004, Mehrow celebrated 70 years of the FFW. The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Mehrow also has a Facebook page. The Jugendfeuerwehr also has a Facebook page.
The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Mehrow isn’t just an emergency service. It is a vital part of the community’s fabric. From its founding in 1934 to its modern-day activities, the Feuerwehr remains a symbol of community. The commitment of its volunteers ensures Mehrow’s safety and well-being.
