Beijing is known for its historical sites. Think of the Great Wall and other UNESCO sites. But Beijing also boasts natural wonders. The Four Caves are easily accessible karst caves. They are perfect for outdoor adventurers and cave enthusiasts. A trip to these underground kingdoms makes a great day trip.

Let’s explore some of Beijing’s most amazing caves.

First, we have Shihua Cave. It is also known as the Stone Flower Cave. This cave is in the Fangshan District. A Buddhist monk discovered it in 1446 during the Ming Dynasty. The cave has seven levels. The first three are open to the public. They stretch for 2.5 km. Shihua Cave is famous in China. Inside, visitors find stalactites, stalagmites and stone flowers. The experience is truly eye-opening.

Next is Yinhu Cave. It is also known as Silver Fox Cave. This cave is near Shihua Cave. It got its name from a rare fox-shaped calcite crystal. The cave is multi-layered. It features a 4500-meter winding path. A 1500-meter river runs through it. You will see stalactites, stalagmites and stone pillars. The underground water is clear and never freezes.

Then there’s Yunshui Cave. Find it in the Shangfangshan Mountain area. This park has woods, karst caves and ancient temples. Yunshui Cave is the largest karst cave in Northern China. It is 600 meters deep with six halls. The “Zhongtian Zhizhu” is a highlight. It is the tallest stalagmite in China at 37 meters.

Finally, we arrive at Jingdong Karst Cave. It is also known as “The Oldest Karst Cave in the World”. This cave is over 1.5 billion years old. It stretches over 2500 meters. A 100-meter boat trip is included. The cave is warm in winter and cool in summer. It has eight viewing areas. These areas have names like “Fairyland in Penglai”. The cave formations were created over thousands of years.

Each of the Four Caves offers a unique experience. They showcase nature’s artistry. They hold geological significance. Exploring these caves is like stepping into another world. Remember the cool temperatures and the stunning formations. Beijing’s underground secrets await those who venture in.
