Founded in 1958, Foshan University has grown into a multi-faceted institution. It offers doctoral training, postgraduate programs, undergraduate studies and further education. The university started as Foshan Normal College and South China Agricultural College Foshan branch. It later transformed through several name changes and mergers.
In 1986 Foshan University was officially established. This was based on Foshan Teachers College. A significant merger occurred in 1995. Foshan University joined with Foshan Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College. This was approved by the Ministry of Education MoE. Ten years later Foshan Health Vocation College and Foshan Education Vocation College were added.
