This unassuming fountain, the Fontana delle Conchiglie, holds a secret. It wasn’t always meant to stand alone. Built in 1938 by engineer Domenico Angeloni, it was once a part of a larger spectacle, the Fontana dei Papiri. Imagine a grander design, with cascading water and papyrus plants reaching towards the sky. Today, only the Fontana delle Conchiglie remains. This charming fountain, adorned with twelve seashells divided into four groups of three, stands as a quiet reminder of the past. At its heart, a central rock shoots a jet of water, a playful touch in this peaceful corner of the Molosiglio Gardens. The Fontana delle Conchiglie may be weathered, its piperno stone showing the passage of time, but its beauty persists. It whispers of a time when water flowed freely and reminds us that even in fragments, beauty can endure.

The Gulf of Gaeta. A name whispered on the wind, a name etched in the chronicles of emperors and popes.
