Built in 1967 FLM 67ha initially housed students. The SEIMAD managed the apartments. Later these apartments were offered for sale or rent. Families of former students moved in. FLM 67ha became a residential area. Construction began in May 1967. The location was far from the city’s edge then. Ambodin’Isotry marked the urban limit. Rice paddies and fields covered most of the 67ha area. About 170 small unevenly spaced buildings existed. In the 1970s SEIMAD work slowed. Illegal constructions started to appear. The lack of roads and shops attracted small vendors. They sold food and charcoal. Initially they used wooden structures. Later they built permanent buildings. This encouraged other families. Small businesses like shoe repair and carpentry appeared. These businesses started the illegal construction. Uncontrolled building continues. FLM 67ha represents a significant urbanization challenge. Today FLM 67ha is divided into four neighborhoods: 67ha Afovoany-Andrefana 67ha Atsimo 67ha Avaratra-Andrefana and 67ha Avaratra-Atsinanana. Each area tells a story of growth adaptation and the constant push and pull of development in Antananarivo. The vibrant community of FLM 67ha continues to evolve. Its story reflects Madagascar’s urban journey. From a student housing project to a bustling residential area FLM 67ha is a testament to resilience.
