Why is that girl holding a bird? That’s the Flicka med fågel, a bronze sculpture created by Ivar Johnsson. The Flicka med fågel has been standing here in the park in front of Skåne University Hospital in Malmö since 1963. It has seen a lot of life, joy and sorrow in that time. The sculpture underwent conservation in the spring. It was cleaned and the old paint layer was removed with the help of blasting. The bird was the only part that kept its old paint. After layers of primer and intermediate paint had been applied, gilder Jonny Hammar gave the sculpture an oil gilding. Finally, the bird got a new coat of blue paint. The Flicka med fågel looks vibrant again and continues to be a symbol of hope and healing for the patients and visitors of the hospital.
