The Flatlands Church of Christ, as some sources call it, wasn’t always the quiet sanctuary we see today. It was once a vibrant hub, deeply intertwined with the lives of the community. It was established in 1961, under the leadership of Chesley Wooten. Before it bore the name Flatlands Church of Christ, it started its journey in 1948 at the Hotel Bossert. The Manhattan Church of Christ sponsored its birth, with Brother William N. Fryer at the helm. By 1952, the congregation had moved to 800 St. Marks Avenue. The journey continued, with the construction of a new building at Flatlands and Ralph Avenue beginning in 1959. The first phase was ready for worship by mid-year, and the entire structure completed in 1960. A fascinating detail emerges from the historical records. In 1978, the congregation acquired a new space at 1371 Rogers Avenue. Then, in 2007, a significant change took place. The church embraced a new identity as the Kings Church of Christ, moving to yet another building at 359 Rockaway Avenue.
