Think about the generations who have sought solace within these walls. The FJKM Itaosy Andohatanjona stands as a testament to faith in Madagascar. It is a place where history and spirituality intertwine.

Let me tell you about the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar known as FJKM. It is the second largest Christian denomination in Madagascar. The FJKM Itaosy Andohatanjona is a part of this significant religious body.

Founded in 1968 the FJKM united three churches. These churches originated from the London Missionary Society. They also came from the Paris Evangelical Missionary Society and the Friends Foreign Missionary Association. This union created a powerful reformed Protestant denomination.

Today the FJKM boasts over 6 million adherents. These members are spread across more than 7200 congregations. The church operates within 37 synods nationwide plus one international synod. It also runs 581 schools. The church has experienced considerable growth. It has planted about one new church per week for the last decade.

However with only around 1500 ordained clergy many ministers oversee several congregations. They receive support from lay pastors and catechists. These individuals assist in preaching and pastoral care.

The FJKM’s structure is quite comprehensive. The General Synod is its highest policy-making body. It consists of nearly 400 delegates. The General Synod convenes every four years. During these meetings the National Council is elected.

The National Council includes 100 members. It meets twice yearly usually in April and October. The council comprises 50 clergy and 50 lay people. These representatives come from seminaries and synods. The National Council has advisory committees. These committees focus on the care of both laity and clergy.

Within the national office three main divisions operate. The Department of Churches is responsible for theological institutions and various church branches. The Department of Schools manages an extensive network of schools. The Department of Human Resources and Finance oversees administration and fiscal matters.

The FJKM is involved in various initiatives. These include an orphanage an order of nuns and social worker programs. The church maintains a committee to fight HIV and AIDS. It also has a committee that advises on national governance.

The FJKM actively participates in ecumenical partnerships. It helped found the Christian Council of Churches in Madagascar in 1980. It also has a long-standing partnership with the Lutheran Church.

Did you know that the FJKM has close ties with mission societies? These include the Council for World Mission the Evangelical Community for Apostolic Action and Quaker Peace and Service.

The FJKM Itaosy Andohatanjona stands as a beacon. It represents the enduring faith and community spirit of Madagascar. As you stand here consider the history and the people who have shaped this sacred space. It is a place of worship a center of community and a symbol of hope.
