It was designed by Pan He and completed in 1982, becoming an instant landmark for the newly established Zhuhai Special Economic Zone. One legend says the Fisher Girl was originally a daughter of the Dragon King, captivated by Zhuhai’s beauty. She disguised herself as a fisherwoman, falling in love with a local fisherman named Haipeng. Rumors of her true origins led Haipeng to demand proof of her love – her magical pearl bracelets. Knowing removing them would end her life, she sacrificed herself for him. A heartbroken Haipeng, with the help of a local elder, revived her with a special herb cultivated with his own blood. The pearl she holds is said to be a gift to the elder, a token of gratitude for their love’s revival. The Fisher Girl Statue is more than just a statue; it’s a testament to a love story and a symbol of Zhuhai’s transformation. In 2014, the Fisher Girl Statue was officially recognized as a cultural relic. A testament to its significance in Zhuhai’s identity.
