First Church of Religious Science believes everyone has the power of God or Spirit within. Some call it One Mind. Accessing this power involves acknowledging it. It also involves affirmative prayer. Thoughts direct our experiences. Clear thoughts aligned with good can bring good results.
The church teaches that the spiritual person is perfect. It seeks to uncover this perfection within everyone’s life. The message is clear. Change your thinking and change your life. First Church of Religious Science does not have any dogma or creed.
The Science of Mind teaching was established in 1927. It’s rooted in spiritual, philosophical, and metaphysical religious teachings. The church believes our thoughts become our reality. We have the power to map our lives according to our desires. This principle echoes through scholars like Buddha, Jesus, and others.
The mission involves creating space for awakening and oneness. It awakens individuals to their inherent power through love and community. The church stands on the idea. What the mind can conceive, the mind can achieve.
The Centers for Spiritual Living organization was founded by Ernest Holmes in 1926. He published “The Science of Mind.” Holmes correlated laws of science, philosophy, and religion. His aim was to clearly explain these laws.
Holmes began speaking in Los Angeles in 1916. His crowds grew to thousands. In 1927, the Institute of Religious Science and School of Philosophy was founded. The Church launched “Religious Science” magazine. In 1953, it officially became the Church of Religious Science.
At its core, Science of Mind believes that God is all there is. There is nothing outside of God. God is a consciousness or energy pervading everything. This One Mind is within us. We are all connected on a spiritual level. Acting in harmony with God improves our lives.
