“Demonstrating Life, Truth, and Love” is the motto of the First Church of Christ Scientist. This church stands as a testament to faith and healing in New Orleans. Founded in 1895 the First Church of Christ Scientist opened its doors at its current location in 1914.

Since then regular Wednesday evening and Sunday morning healing services have been held here. The church provides healing services to all who seek them. It offers Sunday School instruction every Sunday morning at 10:30 AM. You can attend in person or via Skype.

During the 1918-1919 flu epidemic the First Church of Christ Scientist remained steadfast. While all New Orleans churches were closed for a period the Christian Scientists continued to press on holding services when permitted. They showed fearlessness rooted in their faith.

According to a report from that time the influenza infection rate at Camp Beauregard was greater than 50%. It was deadlier than pneumonia meningitis mumps measles hookworm and malaria. Christian Scientists volunteered their services during this crisis.

Shortly after the pandemic on October 5 1919 the First Church of Christ Scientist was dedicated at a Sunday service. This dedication marked a significant moment in the church’s history. It solidified its presence in the community.

Mary Baker Eddy the founder of Christian Science said “Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger”. The church embraces this philosophy. It encourages its members to strengthen their faith and purify their love.
