Haven of worship. That is the First Baptist Church of La Mesa. It stands as a testament to faith and community in La Mesa.

The First Baptist Church of La Mesa was established in 1911. A humble chapel was erected at the corner of Acacia and La Mesa Boulevard. This marked the beginning of a long and impactful journey.

In 1927, the original chapel was moved a block away. It became part of the expanded church property on Orange Avenue. This original chapel still stands today. It is a historical landmark now over 100 years old.

For nearly a century, the First Baptist Church of La Mesa served its community. But between 2016 and 2019, the church underwent a significant transformation. This period was marked by replanting and reforming efforts. The church experienced a new start. As part of this revitalization, the church adopted a new name. It became known as La Mesa Village Church. This name reflected its role as a local church in La Mesa Village.

La Mesa Village Church seeks to share the grace of the cross. Its mission is threefold. To glorify God, build one another up, and minister grace and truth.

The church’s Sunday worship includes songs and prayers. There is also teaching, communion, and community. Children up to the 6th grade are dismissed for their own classes after the first songs. A mother’s room and nursery with a live feed of the service are available.

Jon Langley is the Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision. Marty Stevers leads the Music Ministry. Carrie Langley oversees the Women’s and Children’s Ministries. Peggy Stevers manages Facilities and Administration. Kyle Holman takes care of Set-Up and Tear Down.

La Mesa Village Church considers it a blessing to meet in a building. Many faithful saints have worshipped here for years. The church is committed to growing in the gospel of grace. It also shares the good news with the community.

Imagine the countless prayers offered within these walls. Think of the hymns that have echoed through the sanctuary. Consider the sermons that have inspired generations. The First Baptist Church of La Mesa has been a pillar of strength. It has been a beacon of hope for over a century. Its history is etched into the very fabric of this community. Though its name has evolved, its mission remains the same. To share the love of Christ with all who enter its doors.
