Many years ago, this very spot looked quite different. Imagine a bustling fairground full of life and excitement. It was here in Pilstorpsparken at the Pilstorpsutst\u00e4llningen in 1896 that Sweden’s first film screening took place. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Filmen 100 \u00e5r sculpture was unveiled in 1996. This sculpture, crafted from a single piece of diabase, is more than just a monument. It’s a testament to the captivating power of film and its evolution over a century. The artwork’s design, resembling a filmstrip, cleverly intertwines with the sensual form of a female torso. Notice how some parts are polished to a smooth finish, while others retain a rough-hewn texture? This contrast embodies the duality of filmmaking: The meticulous artistry blended with raw, unbridled creativity. The artist behind this masterpiece is Christer Bording, a self-taught sculptor who hails from Boalt in Ginge. This region is renowned for its rich deposits of diabase. This very stone under your fingertips connects us to the earth and echoes the enduring legacy of Swedish artistry.
