Gazing upon Figueiras, one can almost hear whispers of its past. Figueiras is a village nestled in the heart of Portugal, within the municipality of Lousada. Once an independent freguesia (civil parish), Figueiras held its own with a population of 1,382 in 2011, spread across 2.86 square kilometers. This gave it a population density of 483.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Figueiras’s story took a turn in 2013. A nationwide administrative reorganization saw it merged with the neighboring freguesia of Covas. They formed a new entity, the União de Freguesias de Figueiras e Covas. Before this union, Figueiras was bordered by several other freguesias. To the northeast lay Covas. Ordem bordered it to the east, Casais to the southeast, and Nevogilde to the south. To the west, Figueiras bordered the municipality of Paços de Ferreira. Figueiras and Covas now stand together, their combined stories weaving a rich tapestry of Portuguese life.
