Ever wondered about a locomotive in a Las Vegas park? Fantasy Park isn’t just a name. It’s a story etched in the sands of time. Right here where we stand once stood a vibrant amusement park. It thrived in the early 1960s. The Service League a precursor to the Junior League of Las Vegas developed it. The land was once part of a historic Old Ranch and Old Fort established by Mormon settlers.

Fantasy Park wasn’t your average amusement park. It housed a unique attraction a massive Union Pacific locomotive. Number 4442 this engine wasn’t just for show. It became a children’s play area a whimsical centerpiece in the heart of Fantasy Park. Imagine kids clambering all over a piece of railway history. This wasn’t any ordinary train. This 162000-pound behemoth originally built in 1918 served the US Railroad Administration. It switched railroad cars until 1958. The City of Las Vegas then acquired it for Fantasy Park.

Sadly Fantasy Park didn’t last forever. The park was demolished to make way for the Grant Sawyer state building. But the locomotive’s story didn’t end there. It received a new lease on life. Donated to the Clark County Museum it now stands as a testament to Las Vegas’s past. A reminder of a time when Fantasy Park brought joy to countless children. You can visit this impressive locomotive at the Clark County Museum. It’s one of the first things you’ll see. It proudly stands among restored homes a print shop and even a wedding chapel all part of the museum’s incredible collection.

Fantasy Park may be gone but its legacy lives on in the heart of this amazing locomotive. It’s a tangible piece of Las Vegas’s history a reminder of simpler times and the enduring spirit of the city. So next time you think of Fantasy Park remember the laughter of children the rumble of a historic engine and the enduring charm of a park that once was.
