Family Church

“A church born in a pandemic? That’s Family Church in New Orleans for you.” Family Church in New Orleans has a story unlike any other. It’s a story of resilience, unity, and unwavering faith. Family Church wasn’t built in a time of peace and prosperity. It was born in March 2020, at the very onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Imagine that. Two churches, Restoration Church and Crossroads Community Church, decided to merge and become one new entity. They chose the name Family Church, reflecting the deep relational bonds they sought to foster. Their motto became “Love God Passionately and Love People Personally”. Family Church began its life online, holding Easter services virtually. In June 2020, they transitioned to in-person gatherings, navigating the challenges of social distancing and safety protocols. Their official grand opening was planned for shortly after Hurricane Ida devastated the Greater New Orleans area in August 2021. Instead of celebrating, the church family mobilized. They distributed over 10,000 meals, countless supplies, and offered assistance to hundreds of affected homes. Their actual grand opening took place under a tent on September 12, 2021. Over 100 people gathered, not just to celebrate the launch of a new church, but to celebrate community, resilience, and the power of faith in the face of adversity. The storm damaged their property, forcing a temporary relocation for repairs and renovations. However, this setback didn’t dampen their spirits. In January 2023, Family Church finally celebrated its Grand Re-Opening at its current location on Loyola Drive in Kenner. Family Church’s journey is a testament to the strength and love that can emerge from challenging times. It’s a reminder that even in the midst of a pandemic and a natural disaster, faith can flourish, and community can thrive.
