“Lives are being changed at Family Church.” That’s more than just a catchy phrase. It encapsulates the very essence of what this church is all about.

Family Church started with humble beginnings. Seventeen brothers and sisters gathered in 1981. They met at Manoel and Sonia Cunha’s home for Bible study. By June 1982, they were holding services as the Brazilian Baptist Chapel.

The church formally organized in Jamaica, Queens in November 1982. They were a Portuguese-speaking church then. Pastor Humberto Viegas Fernandes led them until 1986. Pastor Levy Penido followed in 1987. He oversaw significant growth. The church bought a pastoral residence and started a building fund. They even planted daughter churches in New Jersey and Danbury.

Pastor Francisco José Carvalho Izidoro took over in 1995. Under his leadership, Family Church purchased its own building. They paid it off completely. Recently, they ordained Pastor Lucas Izidoro. He and his wife Stephane now lead the English Ministry.

To better connect with the local community, the church became Family Church. They now offer English services and small groups. These groups meet throughout Queens, Long Island, and Westchester.

Family Church is a gospel-centered community. They celebrate the life of Jesus. They proclaim his death and rejoice in his resurrection. The church believes the Bible is God’s inspired Word. They also believe in one God existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

They value the presence of Jesus above all. They seek the power of God through the Word and prayer. Passionate service is key. They serve willingly not because they must. Peace and rest are also vital. They protect their weekly day of rest. People matter most at Family Church.

The church has core values too. They want to reach people with Jesus’s love. They build deep relationships. They grow emotionally and spiritually. They serve the community with joy.

Family Church believes in grace, truth, and faith. They extend grace to everyone regardless of where they are. They believe that lives are changed here. They offer a warm invitation. Consider making Family Church your church home.
