Picture this. You’re standing before the Falls Center a significant landmark in Philadelphia’s East Falls neighborhood. Its history is rich and layered like the Schuylkill River nearby. The Falls Center wasn’t always a bustling hub of activity.

Originally the site housed the Women’s Medical College. This was the first medical school for women in the United States a groundbreaking institution. Imagine the determination and courage of those early female physicians. Their legacy lives on within these walls. The Falls Center is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. So does the Visiting Nurses Association. Even a gelato company Capogiro makes its delicious treats here. Philadelphia University and Eastern University also have a presence. Eastern University established itself at the Falls Center in 2009. This created a large space for classrooms offices and study areas. The university updated the technology infrastructure connecting it to its wider network.

Master’s degree programs and core courses for associate’s degrees are offered. Residency programs in areas like marriage and family counseling and urban studies are held at the Falls Center.

In 2012 the Eastern University Academy Charter School expanded. This expanded the facility to almost 60000 square feet. The charter school is a separate non-profit organization renting space from the university. It serves grades 7-12 attracting students from all over the Philadelphia area. The charter school uses many of the classrooms computer labs and lecture halls. It even has its own lunchroom and multipurpose gathering area.
