In Detroit’s vibrant landscape, Faithful Mount Triumph Church has witnessed a remarkable transformation. Triumph Church, as it’s commonly known, traces its roots back to the fall of 1920. Reverend Claude Cummings founded it as Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. The church’s journey began humbly in a wood-frame structure, located underground at 515 Holford Street in River Rouge. Triumph Church’s story is one of resilience, growth, and unwavering faith. In 1924, the church officially incorporated, marking a significant step in its development. Over the years, Triumph Church has seen numerous pastors guide its congregation. From Reverend L.A. Forte to Reverend Rosbrior, Reverend F. Freeman, Reverend Scott, and Reverend G.W. Sims, each leader contributed to the church’s evolving identity. In 1941, Reverend A.D. Boone became the pastor. He had been a dedicated member for two decades, serving as Choir Director and President of the Baptist Training Union. Under Boone’s leadership, the church flourished. A new chapter began in 1954 when the congregation marched into a new underground edifice at 2550 South Liddesdale in Detroit. The River Rouge Police Department escorted the members to their new spiritual home. Triumph Church continued to thrive under Dr. David A. DeYampert, Sr., who became pastor in 1970. The church achieved significant milestones during his tenure, including the construction of a new edifice on the same Liddesdale site. The building project began in March 1974, and by September, the congregation began worshipping in the new sanctuary. Triumph Church continued to grow. By June 1988, the mortgage was fully paid. A special service commemorated this achievement. The church faced challenging times from 1989 to 1997, with declining membership and the passing of Pastor DeYampert in 1997. A new era dawned in 1998 with the appointment of 24-year-old Solomon Kinloch, Jr. as pastor. Under Kinloch’s guidance, Triumph Church experienced remarkable growth, expanding from forty-four members to nearly 20,000. The church transitioned into a multi-site model to accommodate this growth, adding services at various locations. Triumph Church’s influence extends beyond its walls. It has been recognized for its rapid growth and community outreach. Outreach Magazine named it one of the fastest-growing churches in the United States. The church holds multiple services throughout the week, catering to a diverse and growing congregation. Triumph Church has adapted to modern challenges, embracing live streaming and virtual worship options during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, Faithful Mount Triumph Church continues to serve as a beacon of faith and community in Detroit, embracing its rich history while looking towards a bright future.
