The roots of Faith Emanuel run deep. For many, it is more than just a place of worship. It is a second family. Rev. Kari Hill says that Faith Emanuel has been there to celebrate her good times and her losses. This includes the deaths of her mother, father, and grandmother.
The church embodies a culture of celebration. One Sunday, a teenager received applause and cheers for receiving multiple college acceptance letters. Crystal Robinson, a member for three years, found special love here. She came with problems and burdens but was welcomed. The pastor offered an open door. She experienced a change from her previous religious experience.
Pastor James McGruder has led Faith Emanuel for 19 years. He wants to accommodate older worshipers as well as younger people.
