Isn’t it remarkable how a church can revitalize a community? Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ stands here as a testament to that power. Established in 1985, Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ has been a source of faith and outreach in southeast San Diego.
Bishop Roy Dixon, the pastor, accepted the Lord at age 12. He was active in church and known for his public speaking. Bishop Dixon’s journey led him to be ordained in 1973. He then pastored Val Verde’s Church. In 1985, he established Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ.
Initially, twenty individuals joined Pastor Dixon. They felt the call of God to start this new church. Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ quickly grew into a diverse congregation. They acquired land on Holly Drive and built a 12000 square foot facility. This new building helped to revitalize the surrounding community. Approximately 1500 members attended the new facility. It also housed a Charter School. The church was involved in Welfare to Work programs.
Bishop Dixon also established the Faith Fellowship of San Diego. This fellowship reached out to pastors not affiliated with any jurisdiction. New ministries and congregations were established. In April 2000, the Church Of God In Christ established Bishop Dixon as the Prelate of the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOURTH ECCLESIASTICAL JURISDICTION.
As Bishop, his responsibilities increased. He resigned from the pastorate of Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ. He devoted himself to his new role. He remained committed to helping disenfranchised people. In December 2013, Bishop Dixon became the Pastor at Greater Woodlawn Park Church Of God In Christ. It is located in Chula Vista.
Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ welcomes all visitors. They offer three Sunday services. These services start at 8 am, 11 am, and 7 pm. There is also a YPWW service for children and adults at 6 pm on Sundays. Sunday school programs are available for all ages at 9:30 am. On Tuesdays at 6:15 pm, they have Bible study. A worship service follows at 7:25 pm.
Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ strives to be different in Christ. It has various outreach programs. These programs reach out to the community. Bishop Dixon has been married to First Lady Starrie Dixon for over 50 years. They have three children and several grandchildren. Bishop Dixon believes that God blesses us to be a blessing to others.
