Is it a coincidence that Fairfield Baptist Church shares its anniversary with one of the biggest holidays of the year? The Fairfield Baptist Church, right here in front of us, held its first service on Christmas Eve 1865. It was founded as a branch of the Vulture Street Baptist Church. The church was originally located on the corner of Dudley and Lang Streets. The building could accommodate 90 to 100 people. In 1889, a new church building was constructed. By 1927, the congregation decided to move to a more prominent location. They relocated the church building to 470 Ipswich Road in Annerley. It was refurbished and reopened as Annerley Baptist Church on February 9, 1935. So, the Fairfield Baptist Church, celebrating its birthday alongside Christmas, reminds us that sometimes, history has a funny way of intertwining with special occasions.
