Fairbanks Church of Christ

In 1952, a small group of families started Fairbanks Church of Christ. They began humbly in a Houston Heights civic club. Their first collection totaled a mere $27.09. Fast forward to 1954, a ten-day revival took place on North Main Street. The impact resonated throughout the neighborhood. Many people listened from their porches. Fairbanks Church of Christ purchased a building on Aurora Street in 1955. The cost was $3,500. It was a simple structure. It lacked indoor plumbing, a parking lot, and air conditioning. It was just a white frame building. Later, pews, a pulpit, and a communion table were added. The building witnessed countless baptisms, weddings, and cherished memories. Fairbanks Church of Christ made several renovations over the years. They held numerous gospel meetings. Preachers came from across the country. In 1990, the congregation decided to relocate. They established a building fund. It grew consistently. By 1997, the decision was made to sell the Aurora Street building. The last service there was held on September 28, 1997. Fairbanks Church of Christ temporarily held services at a VFW hall on Airline Drive. Wednesday night meetings took place in private homes. They eventually found land on Fairbanks North Houston Road. Construction soon began. The first service in the new building was held in December 1999. Fairbanks Church of Christ continues to thrive in this location. The church supports mission work in five countries. These countries span North America, South America, and Asia. The Fairbanks Church of Christ community is diverse. It embraces people of various ethnicities, economic backgrounds, and educational levels. They are united by their shared Christian faith.
