Did you ever hear of a church born from a revival? The Fair Vew Missionary Baptist Church traces its roots back to a spirited revival at the Fairview School House between 1879 and 1880. This revival ignited a flame that led to the establishment of the Fairview Freewill Baptist Church in 1882. Reverend David Gow guided the fledgling congregation. They held services and Sunday school within the humble walls of the schoolhouse. Then in 1887, they dedicated their first building. But their journey wasn’t without its bumps. A property dispute with the C & O Railroad forced a relocation. The Fair Vew Missionary Baptist Church as we see it today was completed and dedicated in 1918. The church’s name also evolved. In the 1920s, it became Fairview Baptist Church when it joined the American Baptist Convention. Later, in 1967, upon leaving the convention, it adopted its current name: Fair Vew Missionary Baptist Church. This church has seen a long line of pastors. From Reverend Gow to Nahum O’Brien, each has left their mark.
