“Did they really envision a perfect graduate?” a student’s voice cut through the air. We are standing before the Faculty of Humanities at Chiang Mai University. It’s a place where minds are challenged and perspectives broadened. Established in 1964 alongside the Faculties of Sciences and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities had a unique origin story. It stemmed from the belief that a “perfect graduate” should be well-versed in natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Imagine that! In the beginning, the Faculty of Humanities was a much smaller place. With only 20 full-time academic staff, 2 part-time instructors, and 77 students, they offered a remarkable 282 courses. Today, the Faculty of Humanities stands as a testament to the enduring power of these disciplines. It continues to shape the minds of future generations, encouraging them to explore the complexities of human experience.
