This university was a crucial part of post-war Vietnam. It was built with the help of the Soviet Union. The campus occupied the grounds of the old Indochina Boarding School. It quickly became the largest building in Hanoi.
Think about it. In 1956 a nation rebuilding itself after decades of war. This university was a beacon of hope a promise of a better future. Its first cohort of 848 students represented a nation’s dreams. They studied 14 majors across four faculties. These pioneers laid the foundation for Vietnam’s technological advancement.
The Faculty of Engineering Building itself has seen expansion and change. Over the years additional buildings and facilities were added. It now houses numerous laboratories workshops and classrooms. The university wasn’t without its challenges. In 1966 it underwent a significant restructuring. The Civil Engineering and Mining/Metallurgy faculties separated. They formed the National University of Civil Engineering and the University of Mining and Geology respectively.
