Ever wonder where Argentina’s future economic leaders learn their trade? The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba is just that place. This isn’t just another university building. It’s a hub of economic thought and learning.
The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas started as a humble Escuela de Ciencias Económicas in 1935. Dr. Benjamín Cornejo founded it. He also became its first director. In 1946, it officially became the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas. It gained full faculty status.
Look around you at the building. It is located on Bv. Enrique Barros. The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas is part of the Ciudad Universitaria. The university started expanding in 1957. The original buildings were small. They featured picturesque styles. Only the Pabellón Argentina stood out because of its size.
The university quickly needed more space. The student population grew faster than planned. Architects Taranto-Díaz García-Hobbs-Revol Luque-Arias designed new buildings in 1962. These modern pavilions housed the faculties of Exact Sciences, Physical and Natural Sciences, and Economic Sciences.
The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas building opened on April 15, 1966. President Arturo Umberto Illia attended the ceremony. Dr. Camilo Dagum was the Dean. Ing. Eduardo Cammisa Tecco was the Rector. The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas became one of the first modern buildings at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Later, the Instituto de Matemática, Astronomía y Física followed. The same architects designed it. Now it is the Facultad de Matemática, Astronomía, Física y Computación.
Today, the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas is a vibrant place. Around 15000 undergraduate students attend the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas. There are also 600 postgraduate students and 500 teachers and researchers. Moreover, about 120 non-teaching staff, trainees and contractors are employed at the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas.
Here at the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas, you can study to become a Public Accountant. You can also pursue degrees in Administration or Economics. If you want to teach, you can study to become a Professor of Economic Sciences. There is also a degree in University Management.
The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas is organized with a Dean and a Consejo Directivo. The Consejo Directivo includes representatives from the faculty. It also includes students, graduates, and non-teaching staff. The Dean represents the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas in dealings with university authorities. The Dean also deals with scientific entities. The Dean and Vice-Dean serve for three years. They can be re-elected.
Students have a voice here too. The Centro de Estudiantes represents students. It helps them with university life. It also advocates for them. The student group Franja Morada currently leads the Centro de Estudiantes.
Every Wednesday, the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas sends out a digital newsletter. It is called Contando Virtual. It keeps the community informed. The Facultad de Ciencias Económicas also engages with the wider community. The Secretaría de Extensión invites people to imagine the future of cities and businesses.
