Initially named Corpus Christi High School meaning the Body of Christ F J Brennan Catholic High School boasts a rich history. Founded in 1953 it was Windsor’s first Catholic co-educational secondary school. This remarkable institution served students from grades 9 to 12.
Imagine the excitement of its opening day. Students from various elementary schools such as Corpus Christi St John Vianney and St Rose filled its halls. The school thrived for years becoming a cornerstone of the community.
In 1965 a significant transformation occurred. The school expanded and was renamed F J Brennan Catholic High School. This honour recognized Monsignor Francis J Brennan a revered Windsor priest instrumental in Ontario’s Catholic education system. His legacy lives on within these walls.
The early 2000s brought another chapter of change. Major renovations transformed the school. Students were temporarily housed across three separate campuses during this extensive project. The updated school featured a glass-walled weight room a new chapel and modern facilities. A 50th-anniversary celebration in 2003 marked this renewal.
F J Brennan has always been more than just classrooms. The annual Father Zakoor Cup hockey game against St Joseph’s Catholic High School is a beloved tradition. Brennan’s Cardinals have a strong winning record. The school also thrives in academics sports particularly football volleyball and hockey and the arts excelling in music and drama.
The school’s history includes a notable video “Operation Band Prank The Final Countdown”. This viral YouTube hit showcases students’ vibrant spirit and creativity. Despite facing potential closure due to declining enrollment the WECDSB created Corpus Christi Middle School on the same site ensuring the school’s continued presence.
