Nestled in northern Jerusalem, Ezrat Torah pulsates with a unique energy. This Haredi neighborhood isn’t just a collection of buildings. It’s a living testament to faith and community. Ezrat Torah was established around 1970. It draws its name from the Ezras Torah Fund, a Jewish American charitable organization that supported its creation. The neighborhood is bordered by Kiryat Sanz, Golda Meir Blvd., Shikun Chabad, and Tel Arza. Imagine walking these streets, the air filled with the sounds of prayer and study. Ezrat Torah is more than just a place. It’s a spiritual hub, home to numerous significant figures. Rabbi Yechiel Michel Stern, a prolific Torah scholar and expert on the Four Species, has served as the Rav of Ezrat Torah since the 1970s. The Kapishnitzer Rebbe, Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Palintenstein, also established his Hasidut here in 1975. Ezrat Torah has attracted other notable rabbis like Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, Rabbi of the Western Wall, and Rabbi Avraham Garbuz, author of “Minchas Avraham.” The late Rabbi Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss, Gaavad of the Edah HaChareidis, also resided here. Ezrat Torah is also a place of learning and community gathering. Yeshivas Kodshim, Beis Yisrael social hall, and the original site of Yeshiva Ohr Elchonon are all located within Ezrat Torah. You’ll also find Yeshiva Gedolah Yagdil Torah and Rachmastrivka Yeshiva here. Ezrat Torah houses one of the two main Satmar synagogues in Jerusalem, a testament to its importance within the Hasidic community. Across the street sits the Cheder, both belonging to Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum’s faction. Ezrat Torah is a place where tradition thrives, where the past informs the present. It’s a neighborhood that whispers stories of devotion, scholarship, and community.
