Imagine the hustle. Imagine the bustle. Imagine the sheer scale of innovation contained within these walls. This is EXPONOR – Oporto International Fair, Portugal’s largest exhibition center. It stands as a testament to Porto’s industrial spirit.
EXPONOR isn’t just a building. It is a stage where businesses connect and ideas spark. The story of EXPONOR begins long before this modern structure. It dates back to 1857 when the Associaçăo Industrial Portuense organized the first industrial fair in Porto.
Picture 206 exhibitors displaying their wares at the Asilo de Mendicidade. This initial spark ignited a flame of innovation. It led to the grand International Exhibition of Porto in 1865. The Palácio de Cristal was built specifically for this event.
Kings and queens graced the exhibition with their presence. Over 3000 exhibitors from around the globe showcased their industrial advancements. The legacy continued through numerous fairs in Porto, Lisbon, and Portuguese colonies.
But, the old Pavilhão dos Desportos became too small. A modern, international-caliber venue was needed. Thus, EXPONOR was born in 1987. Located in Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos, it started with 20,000 square meters of covered area.
The exponential growth of fairs after Portugal joined the European Union demanded expansion. EXPONOR tripled in size. Today, it boasts almost 50,000 square meters of covered space. The entire area spans 200,000 square meters.
EXPONOR hosts around 30 trade fairs each year. Hundreds of events take place here. These range from metalworking to construction and home textiles. One can find fairs for jewelry, electronics, machinery, and equipment.
EXPONOR also extends its reach beyond Portugal. It organizes fairs in Angola and Brazil. Exponor Brasil, a subsidiary, has been active in South America since 1999. It has organized over twenty fairs across diverse sectors.
Within EXPONOR, visitors can find six multi-purpose exhibition halls. There is also a 945-seater auditorium. Multi-purpose galleries offer an additional 5,000 square meters of space. Parking is available for 2,500 vehicles.
The venue offers fast internet. IT and telephone services are also provided. ATMs, bars, and restaurants cater to visitors’ needs. Exhibitor support services are readily available.
Medical and fire safety services ensure everyone’s well-being. Security and cleaning services maintain a safe and pleasant environment. If you’re feeling peckish, Gallery 5 houses a food plaza. A coffee stand, Pans & Company, and a large self-service restaurant are available.
EXPONOR stands as a symbol of Porto’s entrepreneurial spirit. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a leading international venue. EXPONOR continues to drive innovation and connect businesses worldwide. As you leave EXPONOR, remember the spirit of innovation that thrives within. It is a legacy that continues to shape the future of Porto and beyond.
