In 1967 a community was born. The Evangelische Zachäus-Gemeinde Freiburg-Landwasser opened its doors. This wasn’t just any church. It was a place where faith met everyday life. The newly founded congregation celebrated services in a temporary building. They even ran a volunteer-operated pub. This unique approach reflected their vision: to connect faith and daily life. The church needed to be close to the people. It had to fit into their everyday lives.

Over almost 50 years the church has adapted and evolved. It started with a café. Later a play area for toddlers was added. As the congregation aged senior work became a priority. After an initial period of growth children left Landwasser. Older parents became the main members of the congregation. Recently more families are moving to the area. The Evangelische Zachäus-Gemeinde Freiburg-Landwasser is adapting again. Their services now cater more to families. The “Heaven with Breakfast” service combines a family breakfast new songs and a contemporary service style.
