Tucked away on Alt-Reinickendorf, the Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Gemeinde K.d.ö.R. whispers tales of faith and resilience. Baker August Lehmpfuhl, a man with a heart for his community, opened his doors to street children. He offered them Sunday school lessons, teaching them to read and write using biblical stories. The Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Gemeinde K.d.ö.R. blossomed, quickly outgrowing Lehmpfuhl’s bakery. The burgeoning congregation moved, finding a new home in the Immanuel-Kapelle on Friesickestraße in 1910. This bustling period saw the Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Gemeinde K.d.ö.R.’s Immanuel-Kapelle become a central meeting place for Baptist conferences and youth events in East Germany. A significant moment in the Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Gemeinde K.d.ö.R.’s history came in October 1982. American evangelist Billy Graham chose this very church for his first evangelistic event in East Germany. Today, the Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Gemeinde K.d.ö.R. continues its legacy of service. It embraces its role within the Reinickendorf neighborhood, fostering community through initiatives like the Scouts and the ecumenical food bank “LAIB und SEELE”.
