In 1966 the Evangelisch Freikirchliche Gemeinde Dortmund-Huckarde found a home. It was a repurposed post office on Altfriedstrasse. This wasn’t just any building. It became a vibrant hub for the community. Children’s activities flourished. A youth center nicknamed “die Glühbirne” the lightbulb thrived. These were the hallmarks of the Evangelical Free Church’s work in Huckarde.
The Evangelisch Freikirchliche Gemeinde Dortmund-Huckarde wasn’t always based here. Its roots trace back to the mid-1950s. Initiated by the Brudergemeinde on Saarbrücker Strasse the church started with meetings. More importantly it began missionary work in Huckarde and Rahm. These early efforts laid the foundation for the community we see today.
For years the church grew within its modest space. But by 1986 things changed. The church held its first service in a temporary structure a Schalomzelt. The community officially formed. This marked a significant turning point. Leadership transitioned with Pastor Ralf Stutzki taking the helm in 1988. Uwe Wippich became the head staff member in 1991.
The Evangelisch Freikirchliche Gemeinde Dortmund-Huckarde wasn’t content to just exist. In 1993 it launched a project. It aimed to define its role in Huckarde. They used posters to spread their message. A pivotal moment arrived in 1995. The church purchased a building on Rahmer Strasse 124. Construction began in 1996. The church relocated to its current location. The renovation was completed in 1998.
The move to Rahmer Strasse wasn’t merely a change of address. It marked a new chapter. In 2003 the community introduced a new system. The Huckarde House Circle concept was adopted. Four house circles were formed. These offered a more intimate setting for fellowship and spiritual growth. In 2005 the Evangelisch Freikirchliche Gemeinde Dortmund-Huckarde achieved a major milestone. It became an independent Bundesgemeinde. In 2006 the church celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Today the Evangelisch Freikirchliche Gemeinde Dortmund-Huckarde continues to thrive. It’s a place of worship and community engagement. Its story is one of growth perseverance and a deep commitment to serving its community. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith in the heart of Dortmund.
