In 1854, a remarkable meeting took place at Sanssouci Palace. The Prussian King met with Baptist leaders, granting them equal status among other churches in the Evangelical Alliance. The Potsdam Baptist community wasn’t established until 1910. Their first church, sadly, was destroyed during the bombing of Potsdam on April 14, 1945. The Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Baptisten-Gemeinde persevered. Through a land exchange, they were able to build a new church. This second church was constructed between 1957 and 1960. It was built upon the ruins of the chapel of the Great Military Orphanage, which was also destroyed during the war. The Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Baptisten-Gemeinde continued to grow. In 1993, an extension was added to accommodate the expanding congregation. Today, the Evangelisch-Freikirchliche Baptisten-Gemeinde is a vibrant community.
