From a small seed planted in 1847, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana blossomed. It grew into a beacon of faith. Here, at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana, we uncover a story woven from threads of resilience, faith, and community. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana’s journey began with German missionaries. These missionaries arrived in Peki with the North German Mission Society. The Basel Mission also joined them in their efforts to spread Christianity among the Ewe people. This marked the beginning of the church’s deep roots in the Volta Region. By the start of World War I, the church expanded to two mission stations in the Gold Coast and seven in Togoland. The first station was Mission-Tove in present-day Togo. This period marked a significant step in the church’s growth. The church was originally called the “Ewe Church.” It adopted the Bremen Mission’s congregational order. Interestingly, Scottish missionaries also contributed to its expansion. They began working in British Togoland (present-day Volta Region) in 1923, further diversifying the church’s influences. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana has played a pivotal role in education and healthcare. It has established many primary and secondary schools, even a university college. The Evangelical Presbyterian University College opened in 2008. It has two campuses: one in Ho and the other in Peki. The church’s dedication to education goes back to 1864. The E. P. Church Seminary in Peki marks its first educational endeavor. The church also runs hospitals, clinics, and mobile clinics. This demonstrates its deep commitment to serving the community’s well-being. Today, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana stands as a testament to its rich history. It continues to spread its message of faith and service. It fosters community.
