Ever wondered how history and tradition intertwine in modern Seoul? Here at the Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum, you can discover the answer. This museum isn’t just a repository of artifacts. It’s a gateway to understanding Eunpyeong-gu’s rich past and its unique hanok culture.

The Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum opened its doors in October 2014. It quickly became a cultural landmark. In fact, the building itself was selected as a beautiful representative building of Seoul in 2015. The museum strives to preserve Eunpyeong’s unique lifestyle and cultural heritage.

Inside the Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum, you’ll find two main exhibition halls. The Eunpyeong History Hall on the second floor showcases the region’s history. It stands where Eunpyeong Hanok Village is today. Here, you can see artifacts excavated from the New Town area.

On the third floor, the Hanok Exhibition Hall displays the evolution of hanok structures. It offers many examples of modern hanoks. Many visitors are curious about the materials used to construct hanoks. They are also interested in the science behind the traditional flooring. This includes the ondol underfloor heating and the maru wooden floor. The museum holds around 7,500 items related to the area’s history and cultural heritage.

The Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum isn’t just about observing. It offers lectures and hands-on programs. These activities provide a deeper connection to the history and culture. For families with children, the museum has useful amenities. There is an infant nursing room in the Small Library. Stroller rentals are also available.

The museum is located in Eunpyeong Hanok Village. The village itself was founded in December 2014. Unlike other hanok villages that restore old houses, this village was created from scratch. It is the largest neighborhood of new hanok houses in the metropolitan area. The village provides a slower and quieter ambiance. Visitors can appreciate the beauty of hanok with Bukhansan Mountain as a backdrop.

While here, consider exploring Jingwansa Temple. It is one of the four major temples around Seoul. From the Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum, you can easily access Eunpyeong Trail. Courses three and four pass by Jingwansa Temple and Eunpyeong Hanok Village.

Before you leave the Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum, remember what you’ve discovered. From ancient artifacts to the science of hanok construction, this museum is a treasure. It links the past with the present. The Eunpyeong History & Hanok Museum offers a unique glimpse into Seoul’s cultural heart.
