Eunhoe Gallery was built in 1908. The area spans approximately 280 pyeong. Visitors appreciate the unique Hanok style and the beautiful artworks displayed. Gyeongbokgung Palace seems to extend into the garden offering a tranquil escape from city life. The gentle sounds of the scenery promote contemplation. As a bridge between tradition, present, and future, Eunhoe Gallery maintains Korean sentiments while embracing modern art. This makes it a cultural hub.
The architectural beauty of Eunhoe Gallery lies in the harmony of space and time. Dramatic twists and peaceful rest areas define the gallery. The building has two independent spaces: the main building and an annex. Five gardens connect the spaces around the main garden. This spatial design allows views of the annex from the main building. Also the main building can be seen from the annex through the garden window.
Eunhoe Gallery highlights the original characteristics of Hanok architecture. Rather than using artificial techniques, the design emphasizes thick and strong expressions. The pond spreads widely displaying the beautiful wind and water flow adding modesty and refinement. Garrets and Ondol are installed differently in each space. This allows visitors to fully experience nature and seasonal changes. Trees, stones, and soil are arranged contrastingly to create a sense of stability.
As you enter through the main gate, fun twists express curves and straight lines in the same space. These elements are hidden throughout the building. The prime of Hanok lies in appropriative landscape. The harmony of buildings and nature is the core of Hanok. It reflects the philosophical basis of Korean art. Eunhoe Gallery strives to be both Korean and global. It challenges the connection between Hanok and art. The E-um Exhibition is held annually. It has presented works by several famous artists. Li Jing Ge, a Chinese artist displayed in the Louvre Museum, has been featured. Ik-joong Kang known for Moon on Gwanghwamun, has also exhibited here. The gallery also displayed work from Geol Kim a maestro of lacquerware. Jeong-min Seo, who reflects Korean beauty on traditional paper, has also been showcased alongside other young artists.
