As we stand before Estação Ferroviária de Vila das Aves, imagine the bustling activity of a bygone era, a time when the iron horse was the king of transportation. The original station building, located on the southeast side of the tracks, was a testament to the area’s industrial prowess, a fact captured by journalist Lopes de Oliveira in his 1938 article. He spoke of the tall factory smokestacks that dominated the landscape surrounding Negrelos, a former name for Vila das Aves, noting its important role in the North’s industrial sector. The station itself underwent major changes in 2003, when the Guimarães Line transitioned to Iberian gauge. The original passenger building was demolished and replaced with a modern structure on the right side of the tracks.
