“When the shadow of night falls and you can no longer clearly see the airfield, the silhouette of a fantastic airplane will soar through the air.” A shiver might run down your spine as you recall these words spoken by Lieutenant Colonel Arenales Uriburu, former head of the Escuela de Aviación Militar. The very school we stand before today. Founded in 1912 by President Roque Sáenz Peña, the Escuela de Aviación Militar has a rich and fascinating history. Initially located in El Palomar, Buenos Aires, it was later moved to Córdoba in 1937, where it stands proudly today. This move placed it closer to the FMA (Fábricas Militares de Aviones), strengthening the school’s access to technical resources and preparing its cadets for the realities of military aviation. The Escuela de Aviación Militar has played a pivotal role in shaping Argentina’s Air Force. In 1945, upon the Air Force’s independence from the Army, this institution became the sole training ground for its future officers. It’s a place where young cadets transform into skilled aviators, their dreams taking flight alongside their aircraft. Today, as you gaze upon the school’s structure, envision the countless cadets who walked these grounds, their hearts filled with the same yearning to conquer the skies. Each aspiring aviator, from the early pioneers training on rudimentary aircraft to those learning on modern machines, contributes to the legacy of the Escuela de Aviación Militar. They embody Argentina’s enduring passion for aviation.
