His final resting place. Ernst August Petzholtz, a man who shaped the very landscape of Potsdam, lies here. Born in this city in 1801, Petzholtz rose to become a renowned master builder, leaving an indelible mark on its architecture. He was entrusted with bringing Ludwig Persius’s vision for the St. Nikolai Church to life, working diligently on its construction for seven years. His skills extended beyond grand churches. He demonstrated his mastery in the intricate details of Klein Glienicke’s park, shaping its landscape into a harmonious blend of nature and design. Appointed as a master court builder in 1858, he continued to shape Potsdam’s landscape, even contributing to the transformation of the Glienicke Hunting Lodge. Although he passed away in 1868, his legacy lived on through his sons, Friedrich Ernst and Friedrich, who followed in their father’s footsteps, further enriching Potsdam’s architectural tapestry.
